About the Show
The Greek tragedy par excellence, Oedipus is a haunting story of a man's search to find the truth. Considered the first detective story, the drama is a kind of epic who-done-it complete with mystery, murder and mayhem.  Theater's original "saint and sinner," Oedipus goes on a fact-finding mission that results in consequences beyond his imagination. One of the trilogy of the Theban plays by Sophocles, this play drives forward at a furious pace as one clue leads to the next and the investigation builds to a shattering resolution. Using a new and accessible translation by celebrated actor and director Steven Berkoff, Pendragon's production takes place in a contemporary setting enhancing the murder mystery qualities of the play. Oedipus becomes a modern self-made man who unwittingly gets caught in the web of his fate as he discovers the man he seeks is none other than himself.
