Looking for Kids to Be in Health Dept Video about Cadyville Rec Park

The Town of Platts rec'd grant money from the Health Dept. to make some recent improvements to the park including trail markers and maps and a kiosk.

The Health Dept. is now making a video of people using the new & improved park, and they want kids!  They're sending someone to film this Monday, 12/21.  The Town Rec Director asked if we could get a group of homeschoolers together to be in the film while using the trails.

If you would like to participate, please come to the Cadyville rec park Monday morning at 11am.  Please email me if you plan to come.

Homeschool Chi and Ski

Hello to all Winter Wishers,

Mt. VanHoevenburg staff has given us an update to hold off with the December 17th registration. They want to make sure there is snow even for the equipment fitting and season’s pass initiating in order to provide a combined lesson on skis. I will be sure to pass on the new start date, as I receive it.

 Best Wishes, Janice Stainken

Lake Placid Ski Club: Cross County at Mt. VanHo

Hello Bill Koch Skiers and Skier Parents....

2 announcements---- the warm-ups are in and looking sharp..send a note to make arrangements to pick up...and...since we all need to get outside and play, how about checking out the jingle bell jog this saturday?, starts at 8:30 by the beachouse.. go to adirondackhealth.org, click on 'events' for more info. kids 12 and under  are free and do not need to pre-register...wear your santa hats....see you up there...

It seems that King Winter is having a hard time getting here, sort of trying to sneak up on us... We did get a taste of ski season, hopefully just enough to have everyone dig out their ski gear and see what fits and figure out who will be getting new gear this Christmas.

WE ARE ' THE LAKE PLACID SKI CLUB, BILL KOCH  LEAGUE, TIMBERWOLVES.'    (LPSC Timberwolves) Our main goal is to have a HOWLING good time while we learn the ski skills necessary to help us enjoy this outdoor playground we call home.

IF YOU ARE RECEIVING THESE NOTES AND DO NOT WANT THEM PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I WILL FIND THE DELETE BUTTON. IT WILL NOT HURT MY FEELINGS.

HAVE YOU SIGNED UP WITH NYSSRA NORDIC ??   THEY ARE OUR INSURANCE COVERAGE, SO PLEASE MAKE SURE AND TAKE CARE OF THAT DETAIL.

Go to  nyssranordic.com and look for BKYSL Memberships.   First year BKL skiers are free. The NYSSRA website will keep you posted regarding upcoming events and other X-C info.  Nyssra membership also entitles you to a membership in NENSA, our New England counterparts,  they have a lot going on across the lake, so make sure and check out  their website as well. You will also receive the NENSA e-newsletter, Foxtails.

We have at least 50 kids signed up for the program this year. for this program to be successful we count on the help of the parents.  Skiers or not, we can find something for everyone to help with. Having skiing parents will be very helpful, the kids skill levels are quite varied and the group will spread out fast. Hot chocolate and cookies are an 'integral' part of our ski days, we can talk about any non-skier parents that would be willing to help with that 'crucial' aspect of the ski sessions.

Nordic Skiing is a lifetime sport. It is a great way to enjoy our winter season with family and friends. Our  program emphasis is on having fun while learning to Classic ski.  skate technique comes as the kids develop better ski skills and fitness levels..We collaborate with NYSEF Nordic and the Olympic Authority Pathfinders to provide more skiing opportunities for our young skiers.

Our 2 main program dates are  Saturday mornings at Mt. van Hoevenberg. (MVH)  10:00 a.m. with a start date subject to conditions,..... and Thursday after school, which we usually start after the Christmas Holiday, location TBD.3:30 til 5:00.  we also try to have a couple Sunday Family Skis, which start at MVH and ends up over at Cascade Ski Touring for lunch. it has become a popular addition to the LPSC Nordic schedule. Stay tuned for any changes and more info.

Please check out our local ski shops for your gear needs and advice, Cascade and High Peaks have been very supportive of this program, you can return the favor by shopping local.   Tell 'em I sent you.

I have some books that I recommend for our younger skiers (Christmas is coming) Ollie's Ski Trip by Elsa Beskow, The Race of the Birkebeiners by Lisa Lunge-Larsen, Trouble with Trolls by Jan Brett, Cross Country Cat by Mary Calhoun and new this year, The Christmas Wish by Lori Evert.  great stories,  ski themed...

stay tuned and work on your snow dances...
