Greetings from Fort Ticonderoga!

I hope the new school year is off to a good start for you and your students!

I wanted to touch base early in the school year and let you know about this year’s North Country History Day.

THIS YEAR’S THEME: Triumph and Tragedy in History
The 2019 theme books and other resources are all available on the Fort Ticonderoga website at:

NEW THIS YEAR! TEACHER WORKSHOP OCTOBER 12TH
This year Fort Ticonderoga is hosting a free National History Day Workshop for Teachers on Friday, October 12th. The workshop runs from 9:00 to 3:00 and features sessions introducing History Day to new teachers, how to integrate History Day into your curriculum, an introduction to this year’s theme, and a session on locating local and regional primary sources for your students. You can learn more and download a registration form at:

THIS YEAR’S CONTEST
This year’s North Country History Day Contest takes place on Saturday, March 2, 2019. Registration for all entries will be due by February 8, 2019. The registration fee remains at $10 per student, which will be due with submitted registrations. Registration will be online beginning shortly after New Year’s Day.

SUPPORT FROM THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR
I am always happy to provide advice and answer questions about History Day. I’m available to meet with administrators, teachers, and/or students. Please let me know if you’d like to schedule a visit to your school,

PLANNING AHEAD
History Day is not a day, it’s an experience. As veterans, you know that History Day projects don’t just happen. Now is the time to plant the seed. Projects should be well underway by late October. I’ve found the “Teachers” section from the New York State History Day website to be a great way to organize the History Day program in your school. Here’s the link:

THANK YOU
Thank you for your past support of North Country History Day. I look forward to working with you and your students again this school year!

Best,

Rich
