North Country Homeschool Co-op 1/20/16

Please come join us at the Wesleyan Church on Rt 3 in the village of Cadyville.

Set-up for those teaching will begin at 10:15am.  Also, teachers, please remember to bring an envelope marked with your class name, fee, and some change to place on the sign-in table!  

Classes start promptly at 11:00am, and conclude around 2:00p or 2:30p when the 1:00pm afternoon classes finish. Feel free to come for the whole time or just for the portion your family wants to participate in. Bring a lunch to enjoy upstairs in the Fellowship Hall or next door at the playground!

Elementary (K - 2nd):

All About Japan
This class will provide a brief introduction to Japan.  In addition to a read-a-loud about Japan, we will identify Japan on the map, learn some of its main geographical features, learn a few Japanese phrases, create some basic origami, sing a song, and discover some similarities between Japan & the United States.  I will share photos of my time in Japan, and bring some Japanese items.

Flower Fairy Class

We’ll read poems and look at art by Cicely Mary Barker and do various art, vocabulary, parts of a flower, etc activities around them.

Gr 4 -12:

Shakespeare (Part 2 of 5)
Playing With Plays Presents Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" For Kids. The purpose of this short 15 minute play is to instill the love of acting and Shakespeare into kids. This play is an adaptation to make it easier for kids to understand, but also contains some of the more famous actual lines from the play.
We'll need a minimum of 10 kids to run this class. Classes take place on January 6th, 20th, February 3rd, 17th, and March 2nd. Each child will assume a role, so it is important that anyone interested in this class is able to make it to every session.

***Please remember that co-op has a nut free policy!  This includes not only items brought for bag lunches but also for holiday treats, snacks, etc.  If you are looking for a nut butter alternative, sun butter is OK to use! ***

We will meet upstairs in the fellowship hall and/or next door at the playground for lunch break.

Children’s Chorus -- any grade

Students will be practicing songs for a Christmas recital at a local nursing home.  Children's Chorus is open to all children as long as they are old enough to stand with the group & not be a distraction to the other singers.

Current Events  -- Gr. 6-12

This weekly group will discuss and explore what is happening locally, nationally and around the world.  Due to some of the content that may be discussed this will be for the middle school and highschool students only (with parental approval).  Students will be asked to contribute weekly.  This class will meet in the downstairs board room.

5 Character Traits: Gratitude

This is the second of a 5 class series covering different positive character traits.  Students will discuss what each trait means, ways to demonstrate it, and work on related activities.

Make small sculpty clay figures.  Please bring a few individual packages of different colored sculpty.  There will also be some available to share.  Tutorials available for ideas.

Intro to Spreadsheets
Learn the basics of how spreadsheets work.  Please bring a laptop if you have one, and a pencil & paper for note taking.  This is part 2 of 2 classes.  The 1/20 class will be Intermediate Spreadsheets, and continue to cover the topic in more depth.
