1812 Homestead Spring Offerings

We are again fortunate to receive a grant of $2500.00 from the Miles Hudson Veron Foundation to help schools offset the cost of their trip to the 1812 Homestead. Funds are available on a first come, first served basis, and may be used towards transportation expenses, or to subsidize the per child admission price. See enclosed flyer.

MARCH 5 – APRIL 19
We have developed a wonderful Maple Sugaring Program for your class. We will make syrup the old fashion way, using the same sap collection methods that produced the abundance of maple syrup that the pioneers enjoyed. The children, divided in to five groups, will experience all stations.
1st group: will learn the production of tapping the trees.
2nd group: will carry the sap to boiling in the sugar house.
3rd group: will learn how the Iroquois used maple products.
4th group: will help our resident pioneer woman make maple goodies over the hearth in the
Farmhouse
5th group: will go to the school house and learn why maple trees are so important.
The Stewart’s Shops give the 1812 Homestead a grant to enable schools and their students to participate in the Maple Sugar Program. Each student only has to pay $5.00 for the program. It’s been a tradition of the Homestead to make maple syrup since 1813.
