First, we have a new Homeschool Chi & Ski offering by Mt. VanHoevenburg and Joe Kahn.  Thursdays from 10 -12pm

We have set aside Thursday mornings as scheduled below for Home School time that has a dedicated instructor and an all in one price of $50 per child that includes season pass, morning lesson and use of the lodge for activities as needed.  This pass will be good any day of the season.  We also have a ski-to cabin on our trails that we can use for different programs.

There are also dates of a Natural History series that we will be hosting this year.  It may be a nice fit for many of you and there is no additional cost for the 27 days that it takes place.

***** In addition, there continues to be an open cost effective XC skiing experience for children and their parents Saturday mornings at Mt. VanHoevenburg with the Lake Placid Ski Club. This ski club offers both downhill and XC outings.  Pat Gallagher pmggallag@verizon.net  heads up the Nordic program and takes kids and their parents out on the trails every possible Saturday morning 10-12.  There is a minimal yearly membership cost and NYSEF insurance cost for the kids.  As long as parents ski with the group, parents ski for free!  Pat is a marvelous motivator and works tirelessly at keeping the XC part of the LPSC growing.  Hot chocolate and cookies are waiting at the end of each ski day.  This coming year 2016, will make 95 years the club has been in existence!  For more information about the Lake Placid Ski Club go to: http://www.lakeplacidskiclub.com/  or contact Pat at the above email.

I highly recommend trying either or both of these Cross Country Skiing offerings.  Both are accessible to any level of skiing ability.  Both Joe and Pat are accomplished skiers that have a calm, encouraging way about them.  Tai Chi is a terrific discipline for controlling your energy and coming into full awareness of yourself.  It is a way for adults and children to learn self-awareness. Cross country skiing is a wonderful application for this honed awareness because it is all about a quiet rhythm.  Maximum propulsion feels effortless because your body is in sync.  If you have ever been curious about trying XC and learning about the ski styles and/or if you want a great family aerobic experience that fits every age, give one of these outings a try.  This is a good season’s pass price offering for VanHo. High Peaks Cyclery in Lake Placid offers discount equipment packages to rent or buy if you are a member of any local ski group.  They are full of information on how to fit you right in your equipment and have used equipment on consignment. You might want to check them out, as well.
