North Country Homeschool Co-op 12/2/15

Please come join us at the Wesleyan Church on Rt 3 in the village of Cadyville.

Set-up for those teaching will begin at 10:15am.  Also, teachers, please remember to bring an envelope marked with your class name, fee, and some change to place on the sign-in table!  

Classes start promptly at 11:00am, and conclude around 2:00p or 2:30p when the 1:00pm afternoon classes finish. Feel free to come for the whole time or just for the portion your family wants to participate in. Bring a lunch to enjoy upstairs in the Fellowship Hall or next door at the playground!

Preschool
Holiday Preschool Class

Enjoy circle time with Christmas songs, stories & finger plays.  Christmas sensory bins, playdough, ripped paper craft, finger painting (smock or old shirt suggested).  Bring bells for circle time songs if you have any.  We have a few to share.

Polar Express
Come join in a variety of Polar Express themed activities to welcome in the Christmas season.

Gr 3-8:

A Little House Christmas

Learn about how the pioneers celebrated Christmas, the history of St Nicholas, and hear the Christmas story from Farmer Boy read aloud as you make a traditional popcorn & cranberry garland.  Discuss ideas for simple, pioneer style, homemade presents (handouts of several ideas will be available for the student to choose from to take home).   **Please note:  As a nice tie-in to this class, the Almanzo Wilder Farm in Malone, NY is hosting their annual Christmas with Almanzo the Saturday following this class, 12/5/15 from 11am - 3pm. **

Gr 6 -12

Nutrition (Part 2)
A two part class focusing on nutrition!  Come learn about all 5 food groups, their main nutrients, and the role those nutrients play in the body.  Learn the basics of reading a nutrition label.  Everyone will have the option of recording their food & exercise for a few days, and will also have the option of analyzing their records in the 2nd class.  See how different foods measure up when dealing with serving sizes.

POTLUCK & Bag Lunch Period

***Please remember that co-op has a nut free policy!  This includes not only items brought for bag lunches but also for holiday treats, snacks, etc.  If you are looking for a nut butter alternative, sun butter is OK to use! ***
There will be a holiday potluck at co-op this week.  Please bring a dish to share!  Either email Holly at northcountryhomeschoolcoop@gmail.com with what you plan to bring or reply on the 12/2/15 class event on Facebook.    Meatballs, baked hubbard squash, macaroni salad & rolls are already planned!

Children’s Chorus -- any grade

Students will be practicing songs for a Christmas recital at Meadowbrook Nursing Home on Tuesday, December 8th at 10:30.  Please arrive in the main entry/cafeteria area by 10:15a.  Children's Chorus is open to all children as long as they are old enough to stand with the group & not be a distraction to the other singers.

Current Events  -- Gr. 6-12

This weekly group will discuss and explore what is happening locally, nationally and around the world.  Due to some of the content that may be discussed this will be for the middle school and highschool students only (with parental approval).  Students will be asked to contribute weekly.  This class will meet in the downstairs board room.

K-5:
Christmas Ornaments
Make ornaments to decorate your tree or give as gifts!  There will be several ornament crafts to choose from.  Students can rotate through tables and make a variety of simple ornaments to keep or give.  Please bring a smock or wear old clothing as some projects may be messy.

Final Class!  Students should bring a calculator & wear clothing that can get messy.

Afternoon Free Play

There will also be building blocks, preschool toys, basic art supplies, the free play room, and other items to help keep our youngest co-op members entertained throughout the afternoon.
