Shelburne Museum Summer Camps

Whether we’re cooking on the hearth, setting sail, or exploring the natural world, Shelburne Museum’s summer camps and workshops offer children ages 6-13 the opportunity to engage their creativity and imaginations. Each and every day, we have the time for artistic expression, gallery explorations, play and investigation of the museum’s beautiful grounds. Our phenomenally fun, hands-on days emphasize the creative process and offer new perspectives on American artistic and historical traditions.

SEE WHAT I SEE

What can you build with everyday objects? Come explore the world of Walter Wick, best-selling author and illustrator of the Can You See What I See? series and co-creator of the I Spy books for children, through our special exhibition, Walter Wick: Games, Gizmos, and Toys in the Attic. Campers will apply Wick’s techniques  to create their own imagined worlds, optical illusions, and puzzles and inventions.
Ages 8-10, $230, Materials Fee: $50

JULY 13 - JULY 17 | 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

MUSEUM YOU

What’s it like to work at a museum? This weeklong workshop allows participants the chance to go “behind the scenes” – to meet the people who design exhibits, preserve objects, manage collections and create programs – and learn about the inner workings of Shelburne Museum. Then, we’ll dive into the creation of our own temporary “exhibition” – selecting objects, designing the exhibition, writing label text and coordinating installation.
Ages 11 - 13, $295

JULY 20 - JULY 24 | 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

CREATIVITY LAB, SESSION 1

Let your creativity run wild! Will soaring birds, a gleaming steam engine, or a miniature circus parade inspire you? Do flowers, trees, and the natural world delight your artistic muse? Join us for a week of museum exploration and creativity. Campers indulge their own creative interests using a wide variety of art materials. On Friday we’ll host a campers’ art exhibit for family and friends.
Ages 8 - 10, $280, Materials Fee: $20

AHOY! A WEEK AT SEA

All hands on deck! Campers will “set sail” to navigate the farthest reaches and deepest fathoms of the museum. We’ll drop anchor at the Lighthouse and the Ticonderoga, explore nautical art and artifacts and swap sailing lore as we earn our sea legs. Keep your eyes peeled and compasses at the ready on a search for maritime creatures, shipwrecks, and hidden treasure. We’ll have many artistic adventures before we find safe harbor at week’s end!
Ages 6 - 8, $280
