Wilderness First Aid Class in the ADKs

The classes are Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder, They are certifications that really help get jobs at summer camps or as a travel guide, or just to keep day-hikers safe in the High Peaks.

Our minimum age is 16, and it is a hands-on immersive educational experience that homeschooled students might really enjoy. It is also a great things for parents and their teenagers to do together.


NOLS Wilderness First Aid

• The WFA is an introductory class; no prior medical experience is needed. You'll learn the Patient Assessment System, how to provide effective treatments for common injuries and illnesses, and how to decide when it's time to evacuate your patient.

•The WFR is an in-depth look at patient assessment, traumatic injuries, environmental topics, and medical emergencies. A comprehensive class with far more hands-on practice than a WFA, the WFR includes CPR and epinephrine administration certifications. Graduation from a WFR turns an EMT into a Wilderness-EMT. Graduation from a WFR turns an EMT into a Wilderness-EMT.
